I always wanted to have our wedding outside in a country setting. My husband and I live in NYC and we spent months searching high and low for a venue. Everything within a 2 hour drive from the city was either terribly expensive or had some sort of major drawback. That was until we stumbled upon The Hill...
We knew this place was different the moment we made the turn into The Hill and drove up the long driveway past horses grazing and beautiful Bells Pond. The property literally sits up on a verdant hill with views of the Catskill Mountains and the Berkshires. One of the things that is so wonderful about The Hill is that it has many unique settings for the different events at your wedding; there is a meadow filled with wild flowers, where we took some "first look" photos; a gazebo, where we signed our ketubah; a grassy field, with majestic views of the Catskills, where we had our ceremony under the arch of a tall tree; a quiet little dock down by the lake, where we had a moment to ourselves after the ceremony; and the small "art barn" filled with terrific antiques, a rustic farm table, and lovely old windows, where we held the cocktail hour. Then our guests walked past the horse corral to the main 200 year old barn, which is simply gorgeous. There is even a field next to the barn where we watched the sunset over the mountains and practiced our first dance for the last time. The entire property is impeccably maintained and in every direction you look, flowers are springing up.
The owners, Betsy and Al, are wonderful and working with them to plan the big day was a joy. We really enjoyed getting to know them and learning about the property. In addition, they were always responsive, organized and completely professional (which we found was often not the case in the wedding biz). The team they employ is amazing and accommodated our every request(for example, even meeting us on a bitterly cold February night in 3 feet of snow to open up the barn so we could get a lighting estimate.)
The other great thing about The Hill is that it is in Hudson. We discovered this town in our search for a venue and fell madly in love with it. There is so much to do, so many wonderful B+Bs and restaurants, and we found the community extremely friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our weekend trips to Hudson to plan the wedding almost as much as the wedding itself.
We could not have asked for more from a venue. The Hill is gorgeous and very unique. Our guests were blown away. My aunt even noted in her holiday cards that we were married "in a setting straight out of a romance novel." I only wish we could relive the night all over again.
